The Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) is a national research facility located 60 km northwest of Johannesburg and operates within South Africa's National Research Foundation (NRF). HartRAO is one of the few four-system co-location sites; SLR, VLBI, GNSS, and DORIS systems are all operational in Hartebeesthoek at this time.

NASA’s MOBLAS-6 SLR system has been operational at the HartRAO in South Africa since 2000. A Russian-built SLR system co-located with the MOBLAS-6 system became operational in 2018.
